Patricia Pitarch, Senior Advisor at Innovation Norway Spain will present the main findings of the Aquaculture in Spain’s report. This webinar aims to summarize the latest research results of the aquaculture production in Spain, you’ll get to know more about the infrastructure, how the farming systems are set, and we will dig into the challenges and opportunities in the sector.

Spain is home to the biggest fishing industry in Europe and has a long tradition of maritime activities such as fishing and aquaculture. Aquaculture in Spain is an important economic and social sector and although it is booming, it faces several challenges by the effect of the climate change that can have an impact on the aquaculture sector.

In response to these new challenges, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has elaborated the “Spain’s Contribution to the Strategic Guidelines for a more Sustainable and Competitive EU Aquaculture 2021 – 2030” which promotes projects related to:

  • Incorporation of new technologies for monitoring
  • Promotion of sustainable practices
  • Strategies against climate change
  • Aquaculture facilities acting as a sink for CO2 shall be promoted.

With an increasing fish demand, aquaculture clearly will be the most important seafood production technology in forthcoming years.
